RISE Uniting People: Building Stronger Communities Through Service, Opportunity and Civic Engagement

For more than a decade, RISE Uniting People has worked to strengthen communities across Suffolk County by helping families, supporting young people and creating opportunities for residents to become more involved in the places they call home.

The organization is entering a new chapter with a renewed focus on one of the most important ingredients in a healthy community: participation.

RISE Uniting People believes stronger communities are built when people know one another, understand the institutions around them and feel that they have a meaningful role in shaping their future.

That means creating opportunities for young people to lead, helping families connect with useful resources, recognizing achievement, encouraging volunteerism and making civic engagement more accessible to everyday residents.

A Community Organization Built Around People

The name RISE Uniting People reflects the organization’s central philosophy.

Community improvement rarely comes from a single program, institution or individual. It happens when residents, families, businesses, nonprofit organizations and community leaders are able to work toward common goals.

RISE seeks to serve as part of that connective tissue.

Its work has evolved over the years, but the organization has remained grounded in direct community involvement. Over more than a decade, RISE has helped hundreds of Suffolk County families and children through community programs, assistance and outreach.

The next phase builds on that history while expanding the organization’s emphasis on youth development and civic participation.

Investing in the Next Generation

Young people will be an increasingly important part of RISE’s work.

The organization wants students to understand that leadership does not begin when someone reaches a certain age or receives a particular title. It begins when people take responsibility for improving something around them.

Through initiatives such as the ARISE Student Recognition program, RISE can highlight young people who demonstrate achievement, leadership, service, perseverance and positive involvement in their communities.
